"Commanding sweeping views of Lake Windermere and the Langdale
Fells, this heavenly sited hilltop inn has been immaculately restored
and expanded into a superb 20-room country house hotel. Mellow oak
paneling and cracking fires warm the homey deep-seated lounges and
Michelin-starred dining room overseen by a charming staff.
The best guest accommodations occupy the second level of the
new Lodge Building, each amenity-rich unit opening onto a balcony
boating glorious scenic outlooks. Other delights: a health/fitness
spa, garden tennis court and woodland walking trails."
To be considered for inclusion for the annual
awards competition, the nominees must be intimate in size and located
in peaceful, aesthetically pleasing surroundings. Distinctive country
houses meeting the basic criteria are then judged for their all-round
comfort, non-commercial character and commitment to personal service.
The firsthand experiences of Hideaway Report readers are also taken
into account
During incognito inspections a number of factors
are noted including, general design, decor and cleanliness of lodgings
and public lounges; staffs are judged on their alertness friendliness
and efficiency; food on the ingredients and presentation; the grounds
on overall appearance and maintenance, and so forth.
